Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
Highlights and Goals
The DeBakey HSHP PTA meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM for one hour. In addition to the PTA Board Officers, the Principal and Assistant Principal are on hand to provide a monthly state of the school update. Each month members of one of the departments are invited to introduce themselves and present an overview of their department goals for the year. This is a great time for parents to learn what’s happening in school and to ask questions.
- Mission – to enhance the educational environment of DeBakey students.
- Meets monthly to discuss upcoming events, issues and problems. Meetings are generally held the second Tuesday of each month, during the school year at 7:00 pm. in the school library.
- Includes a monthly “State of the School” report from the Principal.
- Each meeting includes a panel discussion with each department at least once a year. (This is much better forum than open house because you have time to ask questions.) Departments include: Math, Science, Art, Physical Education, Social Studies, Health Science, English, and Foreign Languages.
- Supports teachers, staff, students and the school facility.
- Helps parents learn and discuss the relationship with HISD. Learn what is happening at DeBakey. Guest speakers. Discuss school goals and achievements.
- Your involvement helps all students. Each year the PTA supports the departments financially to bring needed materials and equipment to our students. Your donations and membership money are used here wisely to help teachers get what they need to bring these values to our students. For example, the following monies are budgeted in 2006-2007 by the PTA.

- Supports various student and staff activities throughout the year. PTA activities help create a memorable year for students, teachers, and staff.
- All PTA office holders are volunteers. There is no red tape and funds are used wisely to benefit the students.
- All parents and guardians are invited and encouraged to become active in the PTA.
- PTA meetings are very efficient, short, and informative. Please join and be a part of your children’s future. We meet every second Tuesday from 7:00 – 8:00 pm in the school library.
- Our goal is 100% participation by parents/guardians at monthly meetings. Strength in number will help us be an influential part of your children’s education.
- Your support through paid membership and donations is appreciated and is very critical to the PTA’s success. Please join in helping to build a better future for DeBakey students. The PTA is only funded by memberships and donations.
- Businesses are invited to sponsor the PTA’s mailing costs. While advertising your business, please come forward and join the discussion at the monthly meeting.
